BORDER COLLIE STANDARDS and REGISTRIES!
Each registry has a set of standards for border collies to conform to.  There are different registries and some have been around for many years while some
are new.  Be careful about the different registries some are legitimate while others are questionable. The registries we list below are registries we know to be
legitimate registries.  Some registries have standards while others have no standard for breeders.
Please be aware that if a breeder is kicked out of one registry for bad breeding practices they can just pick up and change registries~!
There are many performance associations we will be listing them soon.  They are organizations that people perform in with BC's we will be listing those soon.
American Border Collie Association: The ABCA is a working dog registry and
doesn't care at all about what a dog looks like so the standard is basically that the
dog will herd.
The ABCA has banned a few breeder! Way to go ABCA we are very happy that
the ABCA has decided to stop puppymills and breeders who are not ethical!
Buyer beware the breeders who were banned have changed their kennel name
and switched to a new registry!

We only recommend a person buy a pup who is registered with the ABCA, ISDS,
AKC, KC  or the Canadian Kennel Club.
International Sheep Dog Association
The AKC has been known for years as the "conformation" registry but
AKC also sponsors performance events and herding as well.  AKC
also requires DNA profiling of dogs who are bred often. None of the
other registries do this.  AKC also inspects kennels of breeders who
breed a lot.
The ISDS is a working dog
registry just like the ABCA.
The ISDS hosts herding
events as well.
The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is the primary
registry body for purebred dogs in Canada and
currently recognizes 174 breeds. As a non-profit
organization, the CKC is dedicated to encouraging,
guiding, and advancing the interests of purebred
dogs and their responsible owners and breeders in
Canada and promoting the knowledge and
understanding of the benefits which dogs can bring
to Canadian society.
