Altered: A male dog that has had his testicles removed or a female who has had her ovaries surgically
removed; neutered or spayed.
Apron: The hair on the forechest.
Bait: Treat or food used to keep your dog alert and at attention in the show ring.
Balance: The proportion of the dogs overall body structure.
Can also be a herding term for the dogs position relative to the sheep and handler.
Blaze: Streak of white down the center of the head between the eyes
Breeching: Long hair on the inside back of the thighs.
Cobby: Short bodied and compact.
Cow Hocked: Weak hock joints that turn in toward each other and the feet turn outward.
Croup: The rear portion of the back above the tail.
Cryptorchid: A male dog whose testicles have not descended into the scrotum.
Dewclaws: An extra or fifth toe on the inside of the leg.
Drop Ear: Ear that hangs flat .
Dudley Nose: A flesh-colored nose.
Ewe: A female sheep.
Fault: A deviation from the breed standard.
Frill: Long hair on the chest and neck.
Gait: The way a dog moves at a walk, trot or run.
Gay Tail: A tail that is carried over the back.
Hare Food: A long, narrow foot
Hocks: Joint in the hind leg between the pastern and stifle.
Mane: Hair on the back of the back of the neck.
Monorchid: A male dog with only one testicle.
Muzzle: Front part of the face from the eyes to the nose.
Scissor bite: When the upper teeth fit closely over the lower teeth like a scissor.
Semierect ear: Ear carried from one quarter to there quarters erect, upper part folded forward.
Semiprick ear: Ear that is erect with just the tips breaking forward.
