First Aid Kit.
A first aid kit for dogs is a great and handy tool for any pet
owner.  You can purchase a first aid kit from most pet stores
or you can make one yourself.
Depending on the age of your dog you may need more than one collar.
I suggest a regular flat buckle collar.  (I do not suggest a snap collar
because the plastic can break and leave your pup without proper
identification) I suggest you have at least 3 leashes one for daily walks
and 2 backups.

I don't care if you are getting a pup or an adult you should get a
crate.  A dogs crate is his den.  A crate is a good safe environment for
your dog.
TIP: If you are going to be gone during the day you can
connect your wire crate to an exercise pen and your pup will have
room to play and sleep while you are gone!
Feeding supplies
You will need at least 2 indoor chew proof feeding bowls as well as outside bowls.  I
personally like the stainless steel because they are easy to clean and do not tear up.
You will need to stock up on food before you get the dog or pup. I would suggest you
ask the breeder what type of food your pup has been on and wean your pup to
whatever food you choose.  This goes the same for rescues if you can find out what
he/she has been fed. Feeding the same food will help with upset stomach problems.
Toys toys and more toys.  Get a few
different toys and rotate them so
your pup doesn't get bored.
Basic grooming supplies
You will need a brush for daily or weekly
grooming.
A toothbrush to keep the teeth as clean as
possible to prevent future problems.
Nail clippers to keep the nails trimmed so
they do not scratch people accidentally.
Nobody wants it to happen but accidents in
the house are more than likely going to
happen.  Instead of getting upset be
prepared.  You will need a safe cleaner that
will not harm you pets.  I use vinegar/water
solution because it will get rid of odor and
the pup will not smell the old urine and pee
there again.
A dog bed or rug that your pup can
lay on and learn his house manner.
Vitamin Supplements if wanted or
needed.
